Faulty Oral-B Charger Not Working

Why Braun Oral B Toothbrush Won’t Charge – Troubleshooting Charging Problems

This post contains affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

These days all Oral B and Triumph electric toothbrushes are rechargeable. They have to be regularly charged to function.

However, some users may have experienced the situation that their toothbrush is not recharging the way it should, or even stopped charging at all. It usually happens when the toothbrush has been used for several years.

These 3 most common problems can prevent the toothbrush battery from charging:

  • faulty battery
  • faulty charger
  • battery memory effect

First, make sure the power outlet you are trying to use is working. Plug in your hair dryer or any other appliance and see if the outlet works.

If the power is on, there must be something wrong with your toothbrush.

1. Faulty Oral B Charger Not Working

A few years ago Braun OralB bundled their toothbrushes with faulty chargers that stopped working a few weeks after the purchase.  The bad chargers were replaced by a seller or manufacturer, or the purchase price was refunded.

If there is power in the outlet, but the green charging light is not blinking even when the brush sits on the charger for 20-25 minutes, the charger may be broken.

The easiest way to test the charger would be trying to charge your brush using another compatible charger if you have access to it.

SOLUTION #1 – if you have used your toothbrush for more than a year, it probably is out of warranty. You can buy a replacement charger on Amazon.

SOLUTION #2 – if the warranty still covers your item, get in touch with the seller or visit OralB/Braun Service Center website.

2. Faulty Battery

Every battery has a maximum service life. Once it has attained its wear and tear,  it will not respond to the charging or will not hold the charge.

People who have been using their Oral B toothbrush for a long time are prone to this. But hold up and don’t throw out your toothbrushes just yet. A dying battery does not mean the brush itself won’t function anymore.

SOLUTION #1 – you can bring it to the service center and have the battery changed. It will cost some money, especially for those who are carrying warranties that are already outdated, but at least you don’t have to get a new one. Check out the OralB/Braun Service Center website.

SOLUTION #2 – you can try to replace the battery yourself as shown in the video below or described in the guides here.

3. Battery Memory Effect

Another factor that may contribute to your Oral B toothbrush failing to charge is what they call the “memory effect.” Though the existence of this in the toothbrush has not yet been proven or acknowledged by the manufacturer, many people believed it to be real and happening.

The “memory effect” supposedly happens when you charge the partially discharged battery. The battery then only “remembers” the small amount of charge you put into it. This means the unit now holds a lesser charge, causing it not to charge any more if repeatedly done.

This effect can still be corrected if it’s still on its early stage. You just have to let the battery fully drain, and then that’s the time to fully charge it.

To ensure that it is entirely out of power, use your toothbrush (even if it is already low on energy) until it automatically stops.

SOLUTION – use the toothbrush until it is out of power. Then fully recharge it for 14 to 22 hours depending on the model.

Conclusion

All in all, when your OralB is not charging right, you may want to dig deeper into what may have caused it to come with better and suited solutions. There is always the service center near you where you can bring your OralB/Triumph for the check up and repair, or you may opt to solve the problem first on your own.

Whatever you deemed fit, remember to properly use and care for your OralB toothbrush for more prolonged use.

The device is compact enough for travel. It is not bulky, and its charger is small enough to carry around just about anywhere.

Oral B Professional 5000 is being retailed for less than $100, or you may find cheaper ones on Walmart or Amazon. Though it may cost a little more than the other similar products, it is rechargeable and will you some dollars on buying batteries every time.

Features

Bluetooth Connectivity

The Oral-B Professional 5000 is a smart toothbrush of the future in the most real sense. The unique feature of this oral care tool is its Bluetooth connectivity. It helps communication between your smartphone and the toothbrush in real-time.

This enables you to get feedback on your day to day habits of brushing. Those suffering from various dental problems, or who would like better oral hygiene can get surprising results from this brush.

Pressure Sensor

Depending on what kind of cleaning is needed, you usually choose hard, medium or soft brush heads. The OralB Pro-5000 eliminates the need for that with its pressure sensor. It lights up whenever one is brushing too hard; the notification appears on both the toothbrush and your smartphone.

Applying too much pressure can be harmful to sensitive teeth and overall gum health. Hence this feature can help avoid over brushing.

Different Modes

The power toothbrush ingeniously combines 5 different modes for your dental hygiene needs: whitening, sensitive, daily clean, deep clean and gum care. That number of modes is even larger than cheaper Oral B Pro 4000 brush has.

The gum care mode provides gentle stimulation to your gum for better gum health. The sensitive mode has lower speed, giving relief to sensitive teeth while still cleaning effectively.

The whitening mode brushes with alternating speeds so that stains can be polished away. In the deep clean setting, the brushing time is extended so that the cleaning is more effective.

Smartphone Synchronization

Up to six months of usage data are stored for your convenience, which is synchronized with the OralB app on your smartphone. You can get yourself a tailor-made customized brushing routine and share your data with your dentist for a better diagnosis.

It helps you to achieve different goals such as fresher breath or whiter teeth based on the needs you specify on the app. It gives you specific brushing instructions accordingly.

Round Brush Head and Micropulse Bristles

Compared to a manual toothbrush, the Pro 5000 has a round brushing head with Floss Action functionality. It also comes with micropulse bristles which offer better cleaning than conventional bristles. The results are superior. The toothbrush can reach all the nooks and crannies effectively.

Plaque Removing Action

For those suffering from plaque, the Pro-5000 is a real treat. The brush head offers three-dimensional action by pulsating, rotating and oscillating to break any plaque on your teeth. It effectively removes additional plaque on your gums compared to manual toothbrushes.

Customer Reviews

First timers have had a great experience with this model in general, and it does not feel gimmicky at all. Though customers found it a bit annoying to get warned about putting too much pressure, many have been benefitted from it. It cured them of their habit of brushing too hard.

They also really like the battery life of the device, one full charge lasts a good ten days, after using it twice a day. According to many, this is an excellent toothbrush overall and a good jump from analog to digital.

Customers happily report that ordinary battery powered toothbrushes have nothing on this model! It doesn’t weigh too much and fits comfortably in hand without the tacky feel. Many customers like the vibration technology best that works well with the different brush heads it comes with.

The sensitive mode was a blessing for those with dental problems and sensitivity issues. At first, customers needed a little time to get used to the sensation it created.

The Bluetooth feature, according to them, the best thing ever, especially if you have sensitive teeth. The cleaning goals give you a daily challenge to look forward to like tartar control, whiter teeth, fresher breath, etc. It’s a great device if you are tech savvy and need a little extra dental care.

A customer does admit that initially, the Bluetooth feature did not make much sense to them as they had to carry their phone to the bathroom. Once they got used to it, the genius in these features was more apparent.

This Oral B electric toothbrush was a lifesaver for those with plaque problems. The plaque mode went into the nooks and crannies of the mouth and removed plaque quite nicely. Overall, customers are delighted and are already seeing results.

Pros and Cons

Advantages

The Pro-5000 has impressive battery life. It lasts up to ten days with a single full charge with regular use, twice daily and the duration is around two minutes. The app provides excellent motivation for regular brushing as well as tailor-made cleaning routines for those with oral health problems.

There is an easily viewable racing strip that alerts you when you are applying excessive pressure while brushing. This is an excellent feature for sensitive teeth.

The device has five different cleaning modes suited to your oral care needs, varying degrees of pressure, care for the gums and effective plaque removal. Moreover, it comes with six brush heads and a charging station which comes in handy and gives you the freedom to choose which brush head to use.

The interactive app records your brushing habits and customizes your routine according to your needs. It can effectively store records of up to six months, which can be shared with your dentist or oral hygienist conveniently across devices.

The round brush head provides effective cleaning compared to manual toothbrushes. For journeys and ease of carrying, it comes with a handy carrying case. The battery indicator shows battery life clearly.

Disadvantages

The tooth brush has trouble picking up the Bluetooth signals unless your smartphone is well charged. The brush stand takes up a lot of space as it can house four toothbrush heads at the same time. Customers would prefer a smaller brush holder with space for a maximum of two brushes.

The brush head holder has to be frequently cleaned, the water drips from the brush head and accumulates inside. Moreover, there is no way to identify which mode is on unless it is paired with the mobile app.

Another problem found with the model is that you can’t change the brushing modes without changing the entire ‘journey’ or brushing regime. Once a journey is selected, you have to stick to a particular type of mode out of the five.

Philips Sonicare Diamond Clean guarantees fast results since it has a sonic technology (present in every Philips Sonicare product) that provides powerful teeth-cleaning action. Features

Modes

To ensure the best dental care, Philips Sonicare Diamond Clean offers five different modes (just like the Oral B Pro 5000) to cater to every user’s needs,

  • Clean Mode – This is the standard mode for all Sonicare toothbrushes for overall mouth cleaning

The Philips Sonicare DiamondClean holds up to three weeks of charge, if that does not satisfy you, it also comes in USB travel case so you may easily recharge it anywhere, any time. This is pretty perfect for those who are always traveling.

Also, the chrome base of toothbrush can be used for mouth rinsing or charging your toothbrush as it rests in the glass since it has the latest conduction technology.

The Sonicare DiamondClean design is simple, yet very sleek. The handle has a ceramic finish, and the neck is well designed with its accent ring. The electronic buttons are well hidden in the handle.

So if you are looking for practical, well-built, and an advanced toothbrush to replace your old Sonicare Plus model, you may definitely want to check out Philips Sonicare DiamondClean.

Customer Reviews

The very first thing to love about this model from Philips is the look and feel. When you pay a hefty price, you expect nothing less than luxury, and this electric toothbrush does not disappoint here. The handle has a ceramic feel but is not exactly ceramic so it will not break. The grip is well designed and does not get slippery during use. There are hidden areas that illuminate when you change modes and shows battery status.

The travel case is brilliantly designed and well-loved by those who have to travel a lot. It closes with a magnetic lid. Charging is also super straightforward with a USB connection from a computer or a power adapter. There is also an alternative for when you do not want to charge using a cable, which is the charging glass. This also doubles as a stand.

Another little charger also comes with the case that is not found in the pictures but is in the box. The whole toothbrush itself is lighter in weight than most other models, making it a breeze to use as heavier ones can tire the hands.

According to my research, there really is no room for improvement for this product. In other words, this has been created to perfection. I have found that people also love that fact that the manufacturer has paid attention to such details that a lot of companies do not. Small things like making it easy to charge on the go show that a lot of thought has been put into making this, which is appreciated.

Pros and Cons

Pros

The timer feature is a great one for people who lose track of duration. It helps them keep control of time and makes sure that they do not brush for too long or too less, both of which can be damaging given that this is an electric toothbrush. The brush also comes with 5 different modes of cleaning.

The sonic technology this brush uses helps one to achieve crystal clear white teeth in no time. Using it every day can and will help you to get rid of many oral problems. The toothbrush is of high quality and very efficient as well, which allows it to be so useful. This is also on every doctor’s recommendation list.

Cons

After a few years of use, the button can start to become unresponsive in some cases and might require more force to turn on, but if it does, contacting the manufacturer’s customer service will usually solve the problem.

The features are mostly similar to their previous models with little improvements here and there, but the price tag is much bigger than before which may be a let down for a number of buyers. However, the price tag is mostly because of the finish and outlook and luxurious feel.

Conclusion

Electric toothbrushes are pretty necessary and buying one is not easy, given that there are so many different models out there. But looking at what previous buyers have to can help one a lot while deciding to purchase. And, having the pros and cons laid out is also a great help while making a decision. While some people love a feature, others might not enjoy it, and vice versa. This makes it vital for you to check out different opinions before purchase. Philips is a great brand known for its durability and excellent quality, and this electric toothbrush is no different and will surely amaze you.

Oral B 4000 vs 5000

With the big come back of rechargeable and electric toothbrushes in the market, OralB had also come out with their product line.

Toothbrushes from this manufacturer boast the most advanced technology for thorough mouth cleaning, however, all of which, still, has its distinctive advantages to cater to the different dental needs.

You will have a hard time choosing your model from the product range as all of them have excellent features.

So let’s take a look at some of the more expensive models, the OralB 4000 vs OralB 5000.

Both of these models have a lot of features in common.

Besides, both of these models have built-in timers for the recommended two minutes brushing and pressure sensors that will tell you if you are brushing too hard. Moreover, they also boast an in-handle Smart Display, which is interactive and provides feedback and tips for better brushing.

The main difference that sets 4000 and 5000 models apart is the extra features that can be found in the more expensive 5000 brush model.

However, if those extra features built in OralB’s 5000 model (namely Massage mode and Smart Guide) are vital to you and you have extra cash to shell out (it no surprise that 5000th model costs a bit more), then get that particular model.
